Foothill to Showcase Second Heritage Room
Foothill will host an open house to showcase its second Heritage Classroom Thursday, Feb. 2, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in Room 3523. The grand opening of the room, which features stunning Chinese motifs, coincides with Chinese New Year. The newly remodeled classroom is a departure from the setup of a traditional lecture room. The new room is designed as a studio classroom, which means that it has four very large round tables that seat 8-10 students per table. The instructor's teaching station is in the center of the room. An ideal venue for faculty who conduct classes in groups and who wish to encourage more student interaction during the class, studio classrooms are an emerging trend for teaching and learning. The room is also wireless and equipped with laptop computers for students to check in and out for each class session. Priority for using the room goes to faculty who intend to use the room in the manner for which it has been designed. The college’s first Heri tage Room is its Japanese Cultural Center. As part of its renovation and construction projects, Foothill intends to introduce more Heritage Rooms in coming years.

Review Your New Student Identification Number (SID)
A new student identification number (SID) has been assigned to you. This SID is an eight-digit, system-generated number that can be used in place of your nine-digit number, which usually has been your Social Security number. Your SID will be used throughout the colleges' student information system. You can use either the new SID number or your Social Security number to conduct most of your college business with Foothill College and De Anza College. We encourage you to use your SID along with your personal identification number (PIN) to conduct college transactions, including registration, fee payment, transfer requests, and many other services that require identification. By using your SID, you're helping Foothill-De Anza prevent identity theft. A new state law, that will go into effect in 2007, requires that schools not use student Social Security numbers unless absolutely necessary, as in the case of financial aid or student employment. The law also requires that communi ty colleges provide an SID to students by January 2007. The Foothill-De Anza District is beginning the process of changing student ID numbers now to comply with the new law and help protect students from identity fraud.
- If you are a new student, you must still enter a nine-digit ID when you apply for admission. The SID is generated after you submit your application.
- If you are a continuing or former student at Foothill College or De Anza College, an SID has been automatically assigned to you.
- If you already have a nine-digit identification number issued to you by Foothill or De Anza colleges, you may use that number to complete the application process. After you submit your application, an eight-digit Student Identification Number (SID) will then be assigned to you. Remember your SID and PIN: These numbers will be required for your future registration and college business transactions at Foothill College and De Anza College.
- Access www.foothill.edu/reg/stepschk.html.
