** President-elect Obama's Call to Service **
Today is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day when thousands of Americans across the country will commemorate his legacy through service. Be a part of this historic day when Americans band together to renew our local communities. Find an event in your area and take action.
Monday is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. And to honor the legacy of a man who lived his life as a servant to others, I will ask all Americans to make a renewed commitment to serving their communities and their country. On Monday, my family and the Biden family will spend time volunteering in neighborhoods around Washington. I am asking you to join us in that same spirit of service to others - no matter where you live. Because I'm not just asking you to take part in one day of service. I am asking you to make a lasting commitment to make better the lives of your fellow Americans - a commitment that must endure beyond one day, or even one presidency. At this moment of great challenge and great change, I am asking you to play your part; to roll up your sleeves and join in the work of remaking this nation. And if you do, then I truly believe a new and better day is within our reach.”
– President-elect Barack Obama, 1/14/09

** Watch the Presidential Inauguration Ceremony On Campus **
Watch the Presidential Inauguration Ceremony On Campus
Live Broadcast in Campus Center Dining Room & Other Campus Locations
January 20, 2009
8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m
Students, faculty and staff are invited to see history unfold--live via satellite--as the U.S. Presidential Inauguration Ceremony is shown on the large flat screen monitor Tuesday, Jan. 20, beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Campus Center Dining Room and other on-campus locations. Additional information and an event schedule will be announced soon.
The presidential inauguration is the official day that the president of the United States is sworn into office. Events to be broadcast include the swearing-in ceremony, inaugural address, departure of the outgoing president and the inaugural parade that honors the new president. The official theme for the 2009 inauguration is Renewing America's Promise. Instructors are encouraged to bring their classes to this historic broadcast.
President-elect Barack Obama will take the oath of office, which states: "I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of the president of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States." Vice President-elect Joe Biden will have already taken a similar oath.
"The swearing-in ceremony takes place on the steps of the U.S. Capitol with the president-elect being sworn-in by noon on Jan. 20. Amendment XX to the U.S. Constitution states that the term of the president expires at noon on Jan. 20. For more than 200 years America's citizens have witnessed the inauguration ceremonies of the president and vice president of the United States. From the first inauguration of George Washington, in New York City, in 1789, to today, as we prepare for the 56th quadrennial Presidential Inauguration, the swearing-in ceremony represents both national renewal and continuity of leadership."--Source:inaugural.senate.gov
Complimentary refreshments will be provided by the Associated Students of Foothill College (ASFC).

Late adds do not start until Monday Jan. 5, 2009. You will have to wait until the 5th as this is an automated procedure and I do not have the add codes you need.
- On/after Monday Jan. 5, go to the following url:
http://www.foothillglobalaccess.org/cgi/register/register.cgi - In the list, find the class you are interested in and click on the “Request to Add” button.
- Your request will then be waiting for me to approve it if there is room in the class. As people drop, I add additional students. Please be patient.
- Once I log-in and approve your request, you will be e-mailed the information you need to enroll in the class or if there is not room, you will receive an email that says your request is denied.
- Once you’ve officially added the class, Admissions and Records sends your information to Etudes NG, our online class management system and your name is added and you will be able to log on to the class.
- I will then send you a welcome message outlining the first day/week procedures and how to get started and enter the on-line classroom.
- This entire process can take up to a day to get you to the point where you can log-in to the classroom. The sooner you actually follow the registration instructions, the sooner you will be able to enter the on-line classroom and get started.
