$10,000 in Scholarship awards is available from the Foothill Entrepreneur Center and Associated Students of Foothill College!!!

Introduction:
The Foothill College Second Annual Business Plan Competition is intended to simulate the real-world process of entrepreneurs soliciting start-up funds from early-stage investors and venture capital firms. The potential commercial application of the idea, the strength of the management team, and the clarity and persuasiveness of the written plan and oral presentation, all influence the judges’ decisions.

Ultimately, the winning team should be one in which the judges would most likely invest their money. All areas of business, sciences, the arts, and green sustainable ideas are encouraged to compete.

The Scholarship awards break-down are:

• First Place $4,000
• Second Place $2,500
• Third Place $1,500
• Fourth Place $1,000
• Fifth Place $1,000

Requirements for Participation:
The Foothill College Second Annual Business Plan Competition is open to current Foothill College students with a student body card (Owl Card). Members from the community are free to ask two (2) Foothill College students to assist them in building the plan and have complete control of the presentation. No one other than currently enrolled Foothill College students may present. Participants must be enrolled in winter and spring quarters of 2009 at Foothill Col-
lege, and must be either continuing in fall 2009 or eligible to transfer June 2009.
Participants [Students and Community] must attend one of the informational and sign-up workshops in Room 3015, organized by the Business, Economics, and Accounting Clubs (BEAC).

Students, faculty and staff are invited to see history unfold--live via satellite--as the U.S. Presidential Inauguration Ceremony is shown on the large flat screen monitor Tuesday, Jan. 20, beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Campus Center Dining Room and other on-campus locations. Additional information and an event schedule will be announced soon.

The presidential inauguration is the official day that the president of the United States is sworn into office. Events to be broadcast include the swearing-in ceremony, inaugural address, departure of the outgoing president and the inaugural parade that honors the new president. The official theme for the 2009 inauguration is Renewing America's Promise. Instructors are encouraged to bring their classes to this historic broadcast.

President-elect Barack Obama will take the oath of office, which states: "I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of the president of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States." Vice President-elect Joe Biden will have already taken a similar oath.

"The swearing-in ceremony takes place on the steps of the U.S. Capitol with the president-elect being sworn-in by noon on Jan. 20. Amendment XX to the U.S. Constitution states that the term of the president expires at noon on Jan. 20. For more than 200 years America's citizens have witnessed the inauguration ceremonies of the president and vice president of the United States. Please join the City of Palo Alto and its neighboring communities for a celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s 80th birthday on Monday.

Martin Luther King Birthday Celebration: "Service for a Better Community"
Monday, January 19, 2pm
Palo Alto City Hall and King Plaza, 250 Hamilton Ave., Palo Alto

This promises to be a exceptional event. We're teaming up with the King Institute at Stanford and Youth Community Services to honor Dr. King, celebrate the prior weekend of community service projects, and send letters from local youth to President Obama,

There will be a special musical performance by Talisman, Stanford's wonderful choral group.

Other guests include: Judge LaDoris Cordell, Assemblymember Ira Ruskin, Mountain View Mayor Margaret Abe-Koga, East Palo Alto Vice Mayor David Woods, Menlo Park Vice Mayor Richard Cline, Palo Alto Councilmemer Yiaway Yeh, Palo Alto Mayor Peter Drekmeier, and Palo Alto Youth Council President Angela Yang.

Plus, there will be a special surprise at the end.

NOTE: In observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, Foothill College is closed Jan. 19, 2009. Classes do not meet.

** How to Late-add an On-line Class **

Welcome to Winter 2009 at Foothill College!

Now that the quarter is almost under way… here is the procedure to request to add an online class:

Late adds do not start until Monday Jan. 5, 2009. You will have to wait until the 5th as this is an automated procedure and I do not have the add codes you need.

1. On/after Monday Jan. 5, go to the following url:
   http://www.foothillglobalaccess.org/cgi/register/register.cgi
2. In the list, find the class you are interested in and click on the
“Request to Add” button.
3. Your request will then be waiting for me to approve it if there is room in the class. As people drop, I add additional students. Please be patient.
4. Once I log-in and approve your request, you will be e-mailed the information you need to enroll in the class or if there is not room, you will receive an email that says your request is denied.
5. Once you’ve officially added the class, Admissions and Records sends your information to Etudes NG, our online class management system and your name is added and you will be able to log on to the class.
6. I will then send you a welcome message outlining the first day/week procedures and how to get started and enter the on-line classroom.
7. This entire process can take up to a day to get you to the point where you can log-in to the classroom. The sooner you actually follow the registration instructions, the sooner you will be able to enter the on-line classroom and get started.
