Foothill College can help you earn a specialized certificate, associate degree or upgrade your current job skills. We can also help you complete the general education course requirements you need to transfer to a four-year university. Most Foothill courses are transferable to California State University and University of California campuses as well as private colleges and universities. California residents pay just $17 per unit for Foothill classes. Foothill also offers you a full range of student support services, including financial aid , academic counseling and tutoring .

Financial Aid Fall Seminar Series

The Foothill College Financial Aid Office teams up with several lending institutions to present the weekly Financial Aid Fall Seminar Series through Dec. 15 from noon to 1 p.m. in Appreciation Hall (Room 1501). Admission is free and the public is invited to attend. Each seminar will last approximately one hour and financial aid counselors will be available following the presentation to answer your questions. Flu Shots Available Now

Foothill’s Health Services Office offers flu shots to currently enrolled students and college employees while supplies last in Room 5942. Child Development Center Has Openings

There are openings in the toddler and preschool programs for ages 18 months to 5 years at the De Anza College Child Development Center. This is an excellent opportunity for students, staff, faculty and the surrounding community. Full-time child care is available Monday through Friday from 7:15 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The center offers a 12-month program, child-oriented curriculum, skilled teaching staff, and daily meals. Foothill Video Club Screens Wal-Mart Documentary

The Foothill Video Club is sponsoring a screening of Robert Greenwald's controversial new documentary Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price, Thursday, Nov 17, at 1 p.m. in Room 1501. The film takes you into the real lives of Wal-Mart workers and their families, business owners and their communities, in an extraordinary journey that will challenge the way you think, feel and shop.

Foothill Drama Department Stages Emperor’s New Clothes

The Foothill College Drama Department stages Emperor’s New Clothes by Karen Boettcher-Tate Nov. 17 through Nov. 20 in the Smithwick Theater at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills. Drama Department Stages Penny for a Song

The Foothill College Drama Department stages Penny for a Song by John Whiting through Nov. 19 in the Playhouse Theater (Room 1301) at Foothill College. John Whiting wrote this brilliant, whimsical comedy in 1951. His memorable characters, delightful dialogue and thought-provoking ideas on love and war deftly combine farce with his unique poetic charm. Although one of England's master playwrights, he is not as well known in the United States. Foothill's production offers a rare opportunity to see one of his great plays performed.

Cantabile Chorale Announces Double Visions Concert Set

Under the artistic direction of Sanford Dole, the Cantabile Chorale presents Double Visions Nov. 18-20. For concert dates, times and locations, access www.cantabile.org or call (650) 424-1410. The major work on the program, Martin's Mass for Double Choir, is considered to be one of the pillars of the 20th century a cappella repertoire and not to be missed. Rounding out the show is J.S. Bach's only motet for two choirs, the delightful Komm, Jesu, Komm. Cantabile Chorale is a 70-member auditioned chorus comprised of singers from the South Bay, Peninsula, East Bay and San Francisco and has built a reputation for high-quality performances and innovative programming with demanding repertoire from all periods.


Owls to Play in Silicon Valley Bowl

The Foothill College Owls Football team will play Feather River College in the 9th Annual Silicon Valley Bowl Saturday, Nov. 19, at 1 p.m. at the Foothill College Stadium. Both Foothill and Feather River of Quincy, CA, finished the season with a record of 7-3, earning a bowl bid. Tickets are $10, general; $8, students. Tickets are sold at the gate. Data Center Scheduled Power Outage

The district data center has scheduled a power outage for Saturday, Nov. 19, from 6 a.m. to noon. All services provided by the data center will not be available during this outage. This includes e-mail, administration system access, Internet access, and other peripheral systems located in the data center. Service will be restored as soon as possible. Side by Side with Depression Presentation

Foothill's Health Services Office presents Side by Side: A Journey with Depression, an autobiographical one-man comedy, Thursday, Dec. 1, from noon to 2 p.m. in the Smithwick Theater. Admission is free. The last 30 minutes of the presentation include a question-and-answer session. Presenter Brian Wetzel is a comedian who suffers from clinical depression. Bringing his sense of humor and experiences together, he takes the audience on a unique journey of laughter, painful truth and hope. Clinical depression sufferers, friends and family of those who suffer, students studying psychology, sociology or any social science will especially appreciate this presentation. Tay-Sachs Screening

Tay-Sachs disease is an inherited, fatal infant disorder. If both parents are carriers of this disorder, there is a one-in-four chance that any child they have will inherit the disease, and die. There is no cure. Anyone can be a carrier. One of the 150 people in the general population is a carrier. One of 27 people in the Jewish, French Canadian or Cajun population is a carrier. You can be tested for this recessive gene at no charge, through a simple blood test Dec. 6 and 7 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Foothill Health Services Center in Room 5942. Foothill Dances Celebrates The Homecoming

The Foothill College Intercollegiate Dance Program kicks off its 20th season fund-raising efforts with The Homecoming, a celebration of its new dance facility, Dec. 2 and 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the Smithwick Theater at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills. Showcasing almost 100 dancers and specialty performers, The Homecoming will feature dance from around the world, including Brazilian Samba, the Chung Ngai Dance Company and Reggatone mixed with American favorites from tap to jazz to Hip Hop. In addition, prima ballerina Haleigh McConnell debuts a Pointe solo and Erin McKevitt debuts a modern dance with spoken word. “At 2,800 square feet, Foothill's new Dance Studio facility features a sprung floor system, state-of-the-art sound system, mirrors and barres,” says Foothill Dance Instructor Bubba Gong. “For our dancers, the dance studio is a second home, and with the renovation of our dance facility, coming home has never been sweeter.” Under Gong's direction, the production showcases 12 new works and begins the choreographic initiative project at Foothill College for his 20th season.


Foothill Symphonic Winds Performs Of Sailors & Whales

The Foothill Symphonic Winds, under the direction of David B. Adams, will perform Sunday, Dec. 11 at 2:30 p.m. in the Cubberley Theater, 4000 Middlefield Road, in Palo Alto. Symphony & Guest Artist to Debut Foothill Faculty Member’s Composition

Rhapsody for Piano & Orchestra, an original composition by Foothill Music Instructor Paul Davies will be premiered by the California Youth Symphony and London-based pianist Kate Ryder Sunday, Dec. 11, at 2:30 p.m. in the Smithwick Theater at Foothill College. Tickets are $12, general; $6 students and seniors. Tickets are sold at the door. A romantic-sounding piece sprinkled with jazz rhythms, the piece is very accessible to music lovers of all genres. The composition has its genesis in the mid-1970s. At that time, Davies knew he wanted to compose something for piano and orchestra but wasn’t aware of the formal organization of the piece. Over the years he would come back to the piece, but never seemed to get very far with it. It was only after going through some old boxes in 2004 that he found his sketches, and this time the ideas for completing the music came very quickly. The program also includes a selection of traditional holiday fa vorites.


Final Exams Are Dec. 13-16

Final exams are given in all courses except physical education activity, CNSL 50, cooperative education and tutoring courses. Special arrangements are made for self-paced courses and classes that meet only once a week. Students are responsible for taking all assigned final examinations as listed. Failure to take the final exam will result in an F grade. If you miss a final examination for a legitimate reason, you should communicate with your instructor(s) and counselor at once. Review the final exam schedule .


January is Jewish Heritage Month

For the first time at Foothill College, students, faculty and staff are organizing activities and events to commemorate Jewish Heritage Month. In January, the college will celebrate the rich tapestry of Judaic culture and tradition and celebrate Jewish life on campus. The month will include a speech and discussion with a Jewish civil rights activist and author; bone marrow drive; sampling of modern Israeli music; educational program about Jewish ritual objects; Fiddler on the Roof showing and sing-along; discussion of the role of humor and theater in the survival of the Jewish people, and presentation by a star from the Yiddish theater who survived the Holocaust; screening of the film, Focus; Kabbalah information event; traditional folk dancing and music; discussion of the status of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community in Israel and the Jewish world; and Jewish Arab speakers. Foothill’s Forensics Team Wins Individual Events Sweepstakes

Foothill's award-winning Speech & Debate Team continued its success at two recent tournaments: Delta College's Mustang Invitational and University of the Pacific's Tiger Invitational. Foothill won first place in the small school individual events sweepstakes, which included two- and four-year schools from around the nation. Teams competing at these tournaments included Western Kentucky University, University of Houston, Northern Arizona University, University of Nevada at Reno, Mt. Hood Community College from Oregon, and many others, totaling 64 colleges and universities. The Foothill team is coached by Speech Communications Instructor Lauren Popell Velasco.
