Watch Your Mailbox for Printed Schedule & The Heights
Watch your home mailbox for something new—the printed Winter Quarter Schedule of Classes, which is now combined with The Heights, Foothill’s community newsletter. The mailer will begin arriving in local homes after Nov. 20. The new printed schedule allows Foothill to better maximize paper and printing resources, and includes course listings and registration instructions for individual quarters. For convenience, you can also now review the Schedule of Classes online.
Be sure to review the schedule soon so you'll be ready to register forWinter Quarter classes. Registration for continuing students runs Dec. 4 through Jan. 7. Registration for new, former and transfer students is Dec. 11 through Jan. 7. Classes begin Jan. 8 and continue through March 30.
California residents pay just $13 per unit for Foothill classes. A full range of student support services is available, including financial aid, counseling, tutoring and child care.

California Community Colleges Announce Enrollment Fee Reduction
The California Community Colleges recently announced the reduction of community college enrollment fees. Enrollment fees will decrease from $17 per unit to $13 per unit for California residents at Foothill and De Anza colleges, effective Jan. 1, 2007. The California Community Colleges system provides educational, career training and university transfer programs to more than 2.5 million students annually.
Review Your Student Identification Number (SID)
Before Winter Quarter registration gets under way, be certain to review your Student Identification Number (SID). Your SID is an eight-digit, system-generated number that can be used in place of your nine-digit number, which usually has been your Social Security number. Your SID will be used throughout the Foothill and De Anza student information system.
By using your SID, you're helping Foothill-De Anza prevent identity theft. A new state law requires that schools not use student Social Security numbers unless absolutely necessary, as in the case of financial aid or student employment.
If you are a new student, you must enter a nine-digit ID when you apply for admission. The SID is generated after you submit your application. If you are a continuing or former student at Foothill or De Anza, an SID has been automatically assigned to you.
You can use either your SID or Social Security number to conduct most of your college business with Foothill College and De Anza College. We encourage you to use your SID along with your personal identification number to conduct college transactions, including registration, fee payment, transcript requests, and many other college services that require identification.

Skip the Long Line: Buy Your Parking Permit Online
Just in time for Winter Quarter online registration, Foothill now offers you a new, more convenient method to purchase campus parking permits. When you register online beginning next month, you’ll have the option of purchasing a parking permit online. When you select this method, you can immediately print out a short-term, temporary permit to display in your car that must be replaced by a permanent cling permit that will be mailed to the address you specify. You’ll be charged a service fee when selecting the immediate permit option. Look for the buy-parking-permit-online option when you register for Winter Quarter Dec. 4 through Jan. 7.
Presidential Search Progress
The nationwide search for Foothill's next president is under way. With the guidance of the Academic Search firm, a committee of representatives from the college community will begin reviewing applications in January. Review the comprehensive profile of the characteristics and qualifications Foothill is seeking in its next president.
Jewish Heritage Exhibits in Semans Library
Throughout November, the Semans Library hosts two exhibits that celebrate and prepare the college community for Foothill’s Jewish Heritage Month in January. Israel Facts is a series of educational posters about Israel. Genesis is a sculpture exhibition by famous Chilean sculptor Laila Havilio who has exhibited at the in White House in Washington, D.C., National Bank and Chilean Embassy. The gallery is open Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information, call (650) 949-7064.
Foothill's Jewish Heritage Month (JHM) kicks off an entire season of cultural and entertainment celebrations. JHM organizers have developed an exciting array of fun and informative activities that underscore the monthlong theme of Jews around the world. Guest lecturers will present a variety of topics, including Israeli Afro-American Experience, The Real Kabbalah, Muslim & Jewish Dietary Laws & Luncheon, Jews of China, Ritual Judaism and many others. Photo Club Exhibits Summer Excursion
The Foothill Photo Club has assembled Summer Excursion, an exciting exhibit that showcases the work of its members, at the Krause Center for Innovation. The exhibition runs through Dec. 15. KCI Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Foothill International Film Festival
Foothill’s International Programs Office is celebrating International Education Week (IEW) for the first time on the Foothill campus. IEW is a joint initiative of the U.S. Departments of State and Education to recognize the global exchange environment between the United States and other countries.
The highlight of this year's IEW will be the Foothill International Film Festival that will feature a collection of award-winning Vietnamese, French, Indonesian and Japanese films. All films will be subtitled in English, and foreign language enthusiasts are welcome. The festival runs through Nov. 16. Complimentary hors d’oeuvres receptions will be presented before each film. Film: Le Dîner de Cons (Dinner Game, France, 1998) a winner of the César Award in multiple categories, is a delightful French comedy about a famous Parisian publisher’s tradition of weekly "idiots' dinners", at which each guest must bring an "idiot" whom the other invitees can tease.

Film: Dare Mo Shiranai (Nobody Knows, Japan, 2004), a drama about four siblings left alone in Tokyo by their mother, is a profoundly moving film from the acclaimed Japanese filmmaker Hirokazu Koreeda. Yuya Yagira received best actor award at the 2004 Cannes Festival for his portrayal of Akira.
Free Student Loan Workshop
Learn how to apply for federal student loans that can help finance your education at Foothill College by attending a free student loan workshop Wednesday, Nov. 15, from noon to 1 p.m. in Room 1401. Admission is free. The event is presented by the Foothill Financial Aid Office. The workshop will emphasize debt management. The Two Gentlemen of Verona On Stage
A nerdy knight, several outlaws, a girl disguised as a boy, and a dog named Crab—mix it all together with some 1970’s color and perspective, and the result is the Foothill College Drama Department production of The Two Gentlemen of Verona. The show runs through Nov. 18 in the Playhouse Theater (Room 1301) at Foothill College. Performances are Nov. 16, 17 and 18 at 8 p.m.
This refreshingly updated version of Shakespeare's most endearing romantic comedy spotlights the timeless tale of friendship, betrayal and love. Youthful affection is the main culprit as complications abound and love triangles multiply.

Heritage Month Series Information Luncheon

Cultural celebrations occur at Foothill from January through June. January is Jewish Heritage Month, February is Black History Month, March is Women's History Month, April is Asian Pacific Islander Month, May is Latino Heritage Month and June is Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Heritage Month. Each month has a planning committee made up of students, faculty and staff who organize exciting events for the education and entertainment of the campus and community. Students can earn units for planning or attending the events and faculty/staff can earn PAA/PGA credit. Students who chair planning committee meetings may earn UC-transferable units for planning and attending events.
Bay Area Kids & Their Families Will Enjoy East of the Sun and West of the Moon
To share drama and the theater experience with Bay Area kids and their families, students enrolled in the Foothill College Drama Department will present East of the Sun and West of the Moon Nov. 16 through Nov. 19 in the Smithwick Theater at Foothill College.
The performance runs approximately 60 minutes. Mid-morning shows are Thursday, Nov. 16, and Friday, Nov. 17, at 10:30 a.m. Afternoon matinees are Saturday, Nov. 18, and Sunday, Nov. 19, at 2 p.m.

10th Annual Silicon Valley Bowl Football Game
As co-NorCal Champions, the Foothill's Owls, who finished the season with a record of 9-1, play the 10th Annual Silicon Valley Bowl Football Game Saturday, Nov. 18, at 1 p.m. at Foothill Stadium against Sierra College (6-4). In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, the campus is closed Nov. 23 and 24. Weekend classes do not meet Nov. 25 and 26. Fall Quarter final exams are Dec. 12-15. The Quantum Theory of Briseis
The curtain goes up on the world-premiere staged reading of The Quantum Theory of Briseis, which was written by Palo Alto playwright Dennis Carter with direction by Ryan Rusca, of San Jose. Featuring actors from the Foothill Theater Conservatory and the college’s Playwriting Program, the show is Tuesday, Nov. 28, at 7:30 p.m. in Room 1501 at Foothill College.
Through scientific breakthroughs, The Quantum Theory of Briseis whisks audiences from high-tech Silicon Valley to ancient Troy with a layover in Hades. The theatrical odyssey explores the consequences of killing, impact of science and the meaning of love. Admission is free; donations for the Foothill Conservatory Program will be accepted. Visitors must purchase a required parking permit for $2 (eight quarters).
Foothill’s Claybodies Club Presents Ceramics Sale
Foothill's Claybodies Club will present its Holiday Ceramics Sale Nov. 28, 29, 30 and Dec. 2 in the Library Quad. Students will sell ceramics works that they have created. Items for sale in a range of prices include bowls, vases, hand-built figures and more.

Foothill College Dance Program Fund-Raiser Showcase Is Dec. 1 & 2
The award-winning Foothill College Repertory Dance Company, under the artistic direction of Foothill Dane Instructor Bubba Gong, will present its annual fund-raising holiday concert Dec. 1 and 2 at 7:30 p.m. in the Smithwick Theater at Foothill College. The show, 21yo, celebrates the company's 21st annual season with more than 60 students dancers, Foothill alumni performers, and specialty guest artists from the community. The two-hour holiday showcase will highlight the diversity of dance styles from hip hop and ballet to jazz and ballroom to tap and world dance.

This annual fund-raising concert benefits the Dance Program and helps defray technical production costs, provides scholarships for excellence in the arts, and funds master guest artists and companies for lecture/demonstrations, master classes and performances.

Toy Drive for Santa Clara County Children's Shelter
Foothill’s Physical Education & Athletic Division is sponsoring its annual Season of Hope Toy & Gift Drive to benefit the Santa Clara County Children's Shelter. Currently the shelter has 50 children, and more than half of the youngsters are ages 6-10. To participate, bring a new, unwrapped gift to the division office by Dec. 6. Nova Vista Symphony Plays Baroque at Foothill Dec. 9
Baroque forms and fanfares inspire the Nova Vista Symphony fall concert that will be performed Dec. 9 at 8 p.m. in the Smithwick Theater. Under the baton of Ann Krinitsky, the program will include Handel’s Music for the Royal Fireworks, Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 4 and Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 5. Silicon Valley Symphony Fall Concert
The Silicon Valley Symphony presents Christmas Crackers, its fall concert, Saturday, Dec. 16, at 7:30 p.m., at Presbyterian Church of Los Gatos. Admission is $20, general; and $15, seniors and students. Children under age 10 are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. The performance will include Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite, Mozart’s Serenade No. 10 in B-flat Major, Gran Partita and Double Violin Concerto by J.S. Bach. Learn more.
Holiday Hoops Camp for Kids Dec. 21-23
Girls and boys of all ability levels can participate in the Holiday Hoops Basketball Camp Dec. 21-23 in the gymnasium at Foothill College. The camp is designed for players ages 5 to 13. Players age 5-7 will play with lowered baskets. Camp runs from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (includes 15-minute snack break).
Camp coaches will emphasize basketball fundamentals, team concepts and full-court game play. Coaches are members of the Foothill Owls Women's Basketball Team who are 10-time Coast Conference champions.
Camp cost is $100 per player; $175 for two players; and $250 for three players from the same family or if one player is a first-time Holiday Hoops camper. American Legacy
American Legacy, a portrait of Foothill Counselor Jean Thomas, which was painted by artist Milton Bowens, will be formally presented by Bowens to Foothill College at a special ceremony at the African American Museum in Oakland Dec. 2. The portrait will remain at the museum until the end of the exhibition. On Feb. 7, during Foothill College's Black History Month opening day ceremony, Bowens will unveil the portrait, which will then be permanently displayed in the Pass the Torch Office in Room 5971. The founder of the Foothill College Pass the Torch Program, Jean Thomas, who passed away in 2005, was instrumental in bringing Bowens to Foothill in 2000 to exhibit his work.

Film: Dare Mo Shiranai (Nobody Knows, Japan, 2004), a drama about four siblings left alone in Tokyo by their mother, is a profoundly moving film from the acclaimed Japanese filmmaker Hirokazu Koreeda. Yuya Yagira received best actor award at the 2004 Cannes Festival for his portrayal of Akira.
Free Student Loan Workshop
Learn how to apply for federal student loans that can help finance your education at Foothill College by attending a free student loan workshop Wednesday, Nov. 15, from noon to 1 p.m. in Room 1401. The Two Gentlemen of Verona On Stage
A nerdy knight, several outlaws, a girl disguised as a boy, and a dog named Crab—mix it all together with some 1970’s color and perspective, and the result is the Foothill College Drama Department production of The Two Gentlemen of Verona. The show runs through Nov. 18 in the Playhouse Theater (Room 1301) at Foothill College. Performances are Nov. 16, 17 and 18 at 8 p.m.
This refreshingly updated version of Shakespeare's most endearing romantic comedy spotlights the timeless tale of friendship, betrayal and love. Youthful affection is the main culprit as complications abound and love triangles multiply.

Heritage Month Series Information Luncheon

Cultural celebrations occur at Foothill from January through June. January is Jewish Heritage Month, February is Black History Month, March is Women's History Month, April is Asian Pacific Islander Month, May is Latino Heritage Month and June is Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Heritage Month. Each month has a planning committee made up of students, faculty and staff who organize exciting events for the education and entertainment of the campus and community. Students can earn units for planning or attending the events and faculty/staff can earn PAA/PGA credit. Students who chair planning committee meetings may earn UC-transferable units for planning and attending events.
Bay Area Kids & Their Families Will Enjoy East of the Sun and West of the Moon
To share drama and the theater experience with Bay Area kids and their families, students enrolled in the Foothill College Drama Department will present East of the Sun and West of the Moon Nov. 16 through Nov. 19 in the Smithwick Theater at Foothill College.
The performance runs approximately 60 minutes. Mid-morning shows are Thursday, Nov. 16, and Friday, Nov. 17, at 10:30 a.m. Afternoon matinees are Saturday, Nov. 18, and Sunday, Nov. 19, at 2 p.m.

10th Annual Silicon Valley Bowl Football Game
As co-NorCal Champions, the Foothill's Owls, who finished the season with a record of 9-1, play the 10th Annual Silicon Valley Bowl Football Game Saturday, Nov. 18, at 1 p.m. at Foothill Stadium against Sierra College (6-4). Upcoming Holiday Observances & Instruction Dates
In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, the campus is closed Nov. 23 and 24. Weekend classes do not meet Nov. 25 and 26. Fall Quarter final exams are Dec. 12-15. The Quantum Theory of Briseis
The curtain goes up on the world-premiere staged reading of The Quantum Theory of Briseis, which was written by Palo Alto playwright Dennis Carter with direction by Ryan Rusca, of San Jose. Featuring actors from the Foothill Theater Conservatory and the college’s Playwriting Program, the show is Tuesday, Nov. 28, at 7:30 p.m. in Room 1501 at Foothill College.
Through scientific breakthroughs, The Quantum Theory of Briseis whisks audiences from high-tech Silicon Valley to ancient Troy with a layover in Hades. The theatrical odyssey explores the consequences of killing, impact of science and the meaning of love. Admission is free; donations for the Foothill Conservatory Program will be accepted. Foothill College Dance Program Fund-Raiser Showcase Is Dec. 1 & 2
The award-winning Foothill College Repertory Dance Company, under the artistic direction of Foothill Dane Instructor Bubba Gong, will present its annual fund-raising holiday concert Dec. 1 and 2 at 7:30 p.m. in the Smithwick Theater at Foothill College. The show, 21yo, celebrates the company's 21st annual season with more than 60 students dancers, Foothill alumni performers, and specialty guest artists from the community. The two-hour holiday showcase will highlight the diversity of dance styles from hip hop and ballet to jazz and ballroom to tap and world dance.

This annual fund-raising concert benefits the Dance Program and helps defray technical production costs, provides scholarships for excellence in the arts, and funds master guest artists and companies for lecture/demonstrations, master classes and performances.
The director of the Foothill College Dance Program, Gong will workshop 12 new works this year. He is the recipient of awards from Dean Goodman and the Bay Area Critics Circle.

Toy Drive for Santa Clara County Children's Shelter
Foothill’s Physical Education & Athletic Division is sponsoring its annual Season of Hope Toy & Gift Drive to benefit the Santa Clara County Children's Shelter. Nova Vista Symphony Plays Baroque at Foothill Dec. 9
Baroque forms and fanfares inspire the Nova Vista Symphony fall concert that will be performed Dec. 9 at 8 p.m. in the Smithwick Theater. Under the baton of Ann Krinitsky, the program will include Handel’s Music for the Royal Fireworks, Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 4 and Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 5. Silicon Valley Symphony Fall Concert
The Silicon Valley Symphony presents Christmas Crackers, its fall concert, Saturday, Dec. 16, at 7:30 p.m., at Presbyterian Church of Los Gatos. Admission is $20, general; and $15, seniors and students. Children under age 10 are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. The performance will include Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite, Mozart’s Serenade No. 10 in B-flat Major, Gran Partita and Double Violin Concerto by J.S. Bach. Learn more.
Holiday Hoops Camp for Kids Dec. 21-23
Girls and boys of all ability levels can participate in the Holiday Hoops Basketball Camp Dec. 21-23 in the gymnasium at Foothill College. The camp is designed for players ages 5 to 13. Players age 5-7 will play with lowered baskets. Camp runs from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (includes 15-minute snack break).
Camp coaches will emphasize basketball fundamentals, team concepts and full-court game play. Coaches are members of the Foothill Owls Women's Basketball Team who are 10-time Coast Conference champions.
Camp cost is $100 per player; $175 for two players; and $250 for three players from the same family or if one player is a first-time Holiday Hoops camper. American Legacy
American Legacy, a portrait of Foothill Counselor Jean Thomas, which was painted by artist Milton Bowens, will be formally presented by Bowens to Foothill College at a special ceremony at the African American Museum in Oakland Dec. 2. The portrait will remain at the museum until the end of the exhibition. On Feb. 7, during Foothill College's Black History Month opening day ceremony, Bowens will unveil the portrait, which will then be permanently displayed in the Pass the Torch Office in Room 5971. The founder of the Foothill College Pass the Torch Program, Jean Thomas, who passed away in 2005, was instrumental in bringing Bowens to Foothill in 2000 to exhibit his work.

Foothill’s First International Film Festival
Foothill’s International Programs office is celebrating International Education Week (IEW) for the first time on the Foothill campus. IEW is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to recognize the global exchange environment between the United States and other countries.
The highlight of this year's IEW will be the Foothill International Film Festival Nov. 13 through Nov. 16 that will feature a collection of award-winning Russian, Vietnamese, French, Indonesian and Japanese films. All films will be subtitled in English, and foreign language enthusiasts are welcome. Hors d’oeuvres receptions will be presented before each film. Admission is free. The Foothill International Film Festival schedule includes:
