Register Now for Summer Session; Classes Start June 27
The online searchable schedule for Summer Session 2011 is posted at www.foothill.edu. Summer Session registration runs through June 26. Summer Session classes begin the week of June 27 and run in six- and eight-week formats, unless otherwise listed in the online class schedule.
Summer Session for continuing students (you were enrolled in courses at Foothill or De Anza colleges during Spring Quarter 2011) runs through June 26. Your date to register is based on the number of course units you have completed at Foothill-De Anza. Review your date to register, register for courses and pay fees by accessing your MyPortal.fhda.edu account.
Summer Session registration for new and former students runs through June 26 after you submit the online admission application. There is no fee to apply. You will then receive instructions via e-mail from the college explaining how to open and login to your individual MyPortal.fhda.edu account from which you will conduct a variety of college transactions, including registering for courses and paying fees.

51st Annual Commencement Ceremony Is June 24
Foothill College presents its 51st Annual Commencement Ceremony Friday, June 24, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the Library Quad. The evening will feature inspirational messages from Foothill College President Judy C. Miner, student speaker Colin Madondo and faculty speaker Simon Pennington. Tickets are not required and event parking in student lots is free this evening only. Encourage your guests to arrive early to locate parking and seating.
You must purchase academic regalia–gown, cap, tassel, hood and Honors gold cord (if eligible)–to participate in the Commencement Ceremony. Purchase and pick up your regalia at the Foothill Bookstore. The cost of gown, cap and tassel is $39.95 plus tax. The hood rental is $10 plus tax and a $20 refundable deposit. To receive your deposit and your diploma, you must return the hood to the Foothill Bookstore no later than Thursday, July 21. Extra tassels are available for purchase. Textbook Buyback Is June 20–24
The Foothill College Bookstore will conduct textbook buyback June 20-24 in front of the bookstore. Buyback hours at the Main Campus are Monday through Thursday, June 20–23, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Friday, June 24, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Buyback hours at the Middlefield Campus are Monday through Thursday, June 20–23, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Learn more about textbook buyback. AAN Food & School Supplies Pantry Helps Foothill Students in Need
Last year, the college's African American Network (AAN) Food & School Supplies Pantry raised $1,625 and helped more than 300 Foothill students make ends meet. The need still exists and the donation pantry program has returned. All donations go to currently enrolled Foothill students. Donations of the following items will help Foothill students in need:
Harambee Annual Rites of Passage Celebration
Harambee is an Afrocentric event that honors all Foothill College students of African ancestry who are graduating, transferring or receiving certificates this year. The celebration also recognizes students of African ancestry who have served in leadership positions at Foothill College for the 2010–2011 academic year. Harambee is Friday, June 24, from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Campus Center Dining Room. Admission is free; parking is $2. Now Two Ways to Workout in the Foothill Lifetime Fitness & Wellness Center
When Summer Session gets under way June 27, look for changes to use the Foothill Lifetime Fitness & Wellness Center. The state has ruled that you may enroll in Foothill's one-unit PHED 45 course a total of six times. This course allows you to workout in the Wellness Center. But you don't need to forgo your workout if you've maxed out the number of times you have completed the course. Foothill has created a new partnership with the district's Community Education Program that will allow the Wellness Center to remain open to all. There are now two ways to continue to use the Wellness Center. You can purchase a membership through the Community Education Program or you can enroll in the PHED 45 course.

If you are a returning student, you may repeat the PHED 45 course for one unit (up to a total of six times);
As a student enrolled in the PHED 45 course, you are required to complete 22 hours by the end of the term. You will receive a grade for the course; and
For each visit to the Wellness Center, you must complete a minimum of 30 minutes to a maximum of 120 minutes working out. You will be required to check in and out on the center's computer.

Music Technology Celebrity Lecture Series
The Foothill College Music Technology Celebrity Lecture Series for Spring 2011 continues Wednesdays through June 22, from 7 to 10 p.m. in the Foothill Recording Studio (Building 1100). Elemental, a portfolio of 17 two-color relief prints addressing the basic elements of life, is on exhibit through Saturday, June 18, at the Krause Center for Innovation Gallery at Foothill College. To maximize human, financial and physical resources, Foothill College observes modified hours of operation throughout the summer. Most campus services are closed Fridays, July 15 through Sept. 2. Also, Foothill College will observe the Independence Day (July 4), César Chávez birthday (Sept. 2) and Labor Day (Sept. 5) holidays. Free Child Development Orientation & Information Night
Find out how Foothill's Child Development Program can lead to a rewarding career working with children and families. Foothill's Child Development Program is designed for people who are new to the early care and education field as well as for those who are experienced child development professionals. Orientation highlights include identifying which child development courses to take first, an introduction to CARES (a financial stipend program for students) and a presentation understanding the requirements needed to be successfully employed in the child development field. Additional information session activities will give you the opportunity to meet one to one with program faculty, tour Middlefield Campus facilities, and learn more about program requirements, application process and admission to the college. Inaugural Foothill College Learning Curve Bike Circuit Race
Foothill College will host the inaugural Learning Curve Bike Circuit Race Sunday, July 31. More than 400 bicycle racers are expected to participate in the event. The first race begins at 8 a.m. and additional start times will be included throughout the day. Review race time, rules, fees and other details. Proceeds from event will be used to create an on-campus multi-use bike path.

Per-Unit Fee Will Increase to $24 Starting with Fall Registration
In March, the governor signed SB 70, which included a student fee increase at all 112 California community colleges, beginning this fall. At Foothill and De Anza colleges, both of which are on the 12-week quarter system, the per-unit fee will increase from its current $17 to $24 per unit for Fall Quarter classes. At community college campuses that observe the semester system, the increase will be from the current $26 to $36 per unit
Online Registration for Fall Quarter 2011
Fall Quarter 2011 classes begin the week of Sept. 26 and continue through Dec. 16, unless otherwise listed in the online class schedule, which will be posted in early July. Continuing students register July 25–Sept. 25 by accessing their MyPortal.fhda.edu account. New and former students register Aug. 1–Sept. 25 after submitting the college's online Application for Admission and creating a MyPortal.fhda.edu account. There is no fee to apply. Register early for best course selection. Fees are due at the time you register.
Cal Grant Secondary Deadline
Submit your 2011-2012 FAFSA Renewal online at www.fafsa.ed.gov no later than Sept. 2 if you'll be attending college after Spring Quarter 2011. Cal Grant eligibility could add up to $1,551 to your Foothill College financial aid award. Upon transfer to a California four-year college or university, you may receive up to $9,708 in addition to the basic $1,551 award. BOG Fee Waiver Application for 2011-2012 Available Now
The Board of Governors Fee Waiver (BOG) is now available online at www.foothill.edu/aid. If you've been a BOG recipient be aware that your old BOGW expires at the end of Spring Quarter 2011 and you must re-apply for Summer Session and the 2011–2012 academic year. If you've already completed your 2011–2012 FAFSA, you do not need to submit a separate BOG waiver application. Recycle Printer Cartridges at Administration Building
Recycle ink cartridges from your office and home computers here on campus. Drop off empty cartridges in the recycling bin in the outdoor breezeway at Building 1900. Your cartridges will be properly recycled, and Foothill will earn credits for discount purchases of items such as the new bulletin boards now available near campus restrooms. Foothill now offers garment-printing services on campus. Featuring competitive pricing and promotions, the new service is available to students and non-students. Operated by students enrolled in Foothill graphic design courses, Foothill Garment Printing Services (FGPS) provides custom-designed and screen-printed T-shirts for clubs, organizations, teams, events and academic departments. Business transactions for the student-run business are managed at the AFSC Smart Shop and printing is done in Studio 1801, a work force education/graphic arts facility in the college's Fine Arts & Communications Division. Art/Graphic & Interactive Design Instructor Kent Manske, M.F.A., is the faculty advisor for FGPS. Safe Battery Disposal
The Foothill College Library now maintains an designated disposal container for dead batteries. You'll find the bright red battery disposal bucket located at the exit door closest to the circulation desk. Per-Unit Fee Will Increase to $24 Starting with Fall Registration
In March, the governor signed SB 70, which included a student fee increase at all 112 California community colleges, beginning this fall. At Foothill and De Anza colleges, both of which are on the 12-week quarter system, the per-unit fee will increase from its current $17 to $24 per unit for Fall Quarter classes. At community college campuses that observe the semester system, the increase will be from the current $26 to $36 per unit
Online Registration for Fall Quarter 2011
Fall Quarter 2011 classes begin the week of Sept. 26 and continue through Dec. 16, unless otherwise listed in the online class schedule, which will be posted in early July. Continuing students register July 25–Sept. 25 by accessing their MyPortal.fhda.edu account. New and former students register Aug. 1–Sept. 25 after submitting the college's online Application for Admission and creating a MyPortal.fhda.edu account. There is no fee to apply. Register early for best course selection. Fees are due at the time you register.
Cal Grant Secondary Deadline
Submit your 2011-2012 FAFSA Renewal online at www.fafsa.ed.gov no later than Sept. 2 if you'll be attending college after Spring Quarter 2011. Cal Grant eligibility could add up to $1,551 to your Foothill College financial aid award. Upon transfer to a California four-year college or university, you may receive up to $9,708 in addition to the basic $1,551 award. If you did not submit Cal Grant application materials by the priority deadline (March 2, 2011), there is a secondary deadline, specifically for California Community College students on Sept. 2. BOG Fee Waiver Application for 2011-2012 Available Now
The Board of Governors Fee Waiver (BOG) is now available online at www.foothill.edu/aid. If you've been a BOG recipient be aware that your old BOGW expires at the end of Spring Quarter 2011 and you must re-apply for Summer Session and the 2011–2012 academic year. If you've already completed your 2011–2012 FAFSA, you do not need to submit a separate BOG waiver application. Recycle Printer Cartridges at Administration Building
Recycle ink cartridges from your office and home computers here on campus. Drop off empty cartridges in the recycling bin in the outdoor breezeway at Building 1900. Your cartridges will be properly recycled, and Foothill will earn credits for discount purchases of items such as the new bulletin boards now available near campus restrooms. On-Campus Garment Printing Services
Foothill now offers garment-printing services on campus. Featuring competitive pricing and promotions, the new service is available to students and non-students. Operated by students enrolled in Foothill graphic design courses, Foothill Garment Printing Services (FGPS) provides custom-designed and screen-printed T-shirts for clubs, organizations, teams, events and academic departments. Business transactions for the student-run business are managed at the AFSC Smart Shop and printing is done in Studio 1801, a work force education/graphic arts facility in the college's Fine Arts & Communications Division. Art/Graphic & Interactive Design Instructor Kent Manske, M.F.A., is the faculty advisor for FGPS. Safe Battery Disposal
The Foothill College Library now maintains an designated disposal container for dead batteries. You'll find the bright red battery disposal bucket located at the exit door closest to the circulation desk.
