The 24 Hours in North Beach: A Photographic Exploration gallery exhibit is on display through Nov. 30 in the Krause Center for Innovation at Foothill College. The concept was simple: Offer the Foothill College photography community an extraordinary opportunity of collaboration, learning and creativity by photographing 24 consecutive hours of life in the active, historic and artistic neighborhood of North Beach in San Francisco. Student and faculty photographers used film and digital in small, medium and large formats, and in black and white and color to capture the visual poetry of colors, people and architecture. The Foothill-De Anza Community College District (FHDA) Board of Trustees is seeking applicants who live within the district for four seats on its Measure C Citizens Bond Oversight Committee. Nova Vista Symphony Offers Family Concert Dec. 8
Nova Vista Symphony presents Charmers, Jokesters & Comedians, its winter concert, Dec. 8 at 3 p.m. in the Smithwick Theatre at Foothill. Violinist David Southorn, winner of the 2006-2007 Nova Vista Symphony and Fremont Symphony Young Artist competitions, will perform the third movement of Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto. The afternoon timing and program of six light pieces, including familiar melodies, will make the concert especially appealing to families. Final Exams Are Dec. 11-14
Final examinations are given in all courses except physical education activity, CNSL 50, cooperative education and tutoring courses. Final examinations normally will not be given in advance of the scheduled time. You are responsible for taking all assigned final exams. Failure to take the final exam will result in an F grade. Foothill’s Organizacion Latinos Americana (OLA) has teamed up with the Santa Clara County Commission on the Status of Women for a holiday book drive to collect easy-to-read material for women who are lodged at Elmwood Jail. Now through Dec. 14, you can bring new and almost new paperback books—from how-to and self-help books to novels and non-fiction—to on-campus drop-off locations in the Student Success Center, Cooperative Work Experience Program Office, Counseling Lobby, Student Activities Office and FHDA District Office. Foothill offers numerous scholarships for students of all majors and interests. You can use scholarship money to pay for books, computer gear and even to offset living expenses. The key to receiving a scholarship is reviewing each award’s criteria and submitting the required essay and related forms well before the Feb. 14 deadline. Review Foothill’s scholarship listings.
This is an excellent time to begin researching scholarships, downloading application materials, writing your essay and requesting letters of recommendation. Scholarships will be awarded during Spring Quarter.
Of particular note for scholarship hunters is the Foothill College Commission Scholarship, which will award two students with $1,500 each. To apply for this award, you must be preparing to transfer and have completed a minimum of 45 transferable quarter units with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Community service to Foothill College and/or the community served by the college should be emphasized in your essay. Your volunteer experience will play a major role in the final selection process. Pick up the application for this scholarship in person in the Financial Aid Office.
