Expect Delays Entering & Exiting the Foothill Campus throughout December
The city of Los Altos is installing median sidewalks along El Monte Road. To keep workers and drivers safe, the two lanes on El Monte Road will be reduced to a single lane. Allow yourself extra time, and expect delays entering and exiting the Foothill campus. City officials expect this project to be completed by the end of December. Entering/exiting at the Moody Road entrance near Lot 7, near the fire station, may alleviate some congestion. We ask for your patience to ensure safety for all.
Free Emergency Contraceptives Available at On-Campus Health Center
The on-campus Health Services Office provides students with free emergency contraceptives such as the morning-after and Plan B pills. The center teams up with Planned Parenthood to provide this service. For more information, call (650) 949-7243 or visit the center in Room 2126 of the Campus Center Building. Peninsula Women's Chorus Presents Seven Joys
The Peninsula Women's Chorus (PWC) begins its 42nd season with Seven Joys, featuring San Francisco composer Kirke Mechem's beloved Seven Joys of Christmas and the seven movements of Autumn Landscapes by renowned Estonian composer and PWC friend Veljo Tormis. Find Out How You Can Study Archeology in Ecuador with Foothill College This Summer
Foothill College will present a unique five-week campus abroad journey for Summer 2009 as students travel to Ecuador to live, study and work side by side with international scientists to uncover objects in ancient archeology digs, attend field trips and participate in service learning projects. Learn more about the program and meet Foothill Anthropology Instructor Sam Connell, Ph.D., who will lead Foothill's Ecuador trip, by attending a free information session Wednesday, Dec. 3, at 6 p.m. in Room 3101 at Foothill College. Free Flu Vaccinations for Students
It's vaccination season and Foothill students with documentation of current registration can get a flu shot at no charge while supplies last at the Foothill Health Services Office in the Campus Center in Room 2126. Flu shots are administered Mondays through Fridays, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 4:30 p.m. in Room 2126 on the Main Campus. Infection control begins with respiratory manners, which includes staying home when you are ill, frequently washing your hands, sneezing into your flexed elbow and disposing of tissues. Winter recess is an excellent time to research Foothill scholarships, download application materials, write essays and request letters of recommendation now. The key to earning a scholarship is reviewing each award's criteria and submitting the required essay and related forms well before the Feb. 12 deadline. CreatiVision3 Exhibition
CreatiVision3, a digital photography show featuring the images of Barbara Collins, Tamara Barr and Marcia Bhide, runs through Dec. 7 in the Foothill College Photography Department Gallery in Building 6100. Bhide, Barr and Collins are all either current or former students in the college’s Photography & Digital Imaging Department. They have won numerous awards for their work and have shown extensively throughout the Bay Area. Each artist works with camera and computer to produce works that demonstrate just how far digital imaging has come in a very short time. Admission is free. The Foothill College Theatre Arts Department teams up with Peninsula Youth Theatre for an exciting production of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe Dec. 4 through Dec. 7 in the Smithwick Theatre at Foothill College. A classic story for kids and adults, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe chronicles the adventures of four siblings as they take a trip through a strange wardrobe to the magical land of Narnia, where the treacherous White Witch has cast a spell of eternal winter over the land populated by animals and mystical creatures. In a climactic struggle pitting the forces of good versus evil, the children try to fulfill the prophecy that will return Narnia to its rightful ruler, Aslan the Lion.

One Book, One College, One Community Project
Based on its on- and off-campus success, Foothill is reprising its One Book, One College, One Community Initiative that encourage students, community members, faculty and staff to read a chosen book and participate in events related to the selected work. The book selected for the 2008-2009 academic year is Not a Genuine Black Man by Bay Area author/actor/comedian Brian Copeland.
But audiences don't have to wait to pick up the book to hear from Copeland. The award-winning artist will give a one-night-only performance of Not a Genuine Black Man, his acclaimed one-man show, Friday, Jan. 9, at 7 p.m. in the Smithwick Theatre at Foothill College. After a smash run off-Broadway, Copeland's Not a Genuine Black Man holds the record for the longest running solo show in San Francisco history. His incisive, cutting-edge standup comedy material and his unique ability to hilariously cut to the heart of some of our most serious social and political problems has earned him spots as the opening act for such diverse artists as Ray Charles, Ringo Starr, James Brown, Etta James, Smokey Robinson and Aretha Franklin, among others. Not a Genuine Black Man deals with the lingering effects of Copeland's childhood spent as an African American in the then predominantly white Bay Area suburb of San Leandro. In Fall 2004, the Foothill-De Anza Community College District conducted a survey of all students and employees to determine if changes to the district’s smoking policy were desired. The results of that survey led to the district adopting its current board policy, which permits smoking in designated parking lots only.
These surveys are repeated about every two years. Final Exams for Fall Quarter 2008
Final examinations are given in all courses except physical education activity, CNSL 50, cooperative education and tutoring courses. The Enchanted on Stage at Foothill College

Think Ink is an exhibition of original prints created and curated by printmakers in Studio 1801 at Foothill College. The works address a wide range of contemporary issues and feelings. CreatiVision3 Exhibition
CreatiVision3, a digital photography show featuring the images of Barbara Collins, Tamara Barr and Marcia Bhide, runs through Dec. 7 in the Foothill College Photography Department Gallery in Building 6100. Bhide, Barr and Collins are all either current or former students in the college’s Photography & Digital Imaging Department. In a climactic struggle pitting the forces of good versus evil, the children try to fulfill the prophecy that will return Narnia to its rightful ruler, Aslan the Lion.

Based on its on- and off-campus success, Foothill is reprising its One Book, One College, One Community Initiative that encourage students, community members, faculty and staff to read a chosen book and participate in events related to the selected work. The book selected for the 2008-2009 academic year is Not a Genuine Black Man by Bay Area author/actor/comedian Brian Copeland.

His incisive, cutting-edge standup comedy material and his unique ability to hilariously cut to the heart of some of our most serious social and political problems has earned him spots as the opening act for such diverse artists as Ray Charles, Ringo Starr, James Brown, Etta James, Smokey Robinson and Aretha Franklin, among others. Not a Genuine Black Man deals with the lingering effects of Copeland's childhood spent as an African American in the then predominantly white Bay Area suburb of San Leandro. 2nd Annual Foothill Business Plan Competition

On Wednesday, Nov. 19, the township of Los Altos begins installing median sidewalks along El Monte Road. Free Emergency Contraceptives Available at On-Campus Health Center
The on-campus Health Services Office provides students with free emergency contraceptives such as the morning-after and Plan B pills. The Foothill Authors Series presents Guy Kawasaki, a managing director of Garage Technology Ventures, an early-stage venture capital firm and a columnist for Entrepreneur Magazine, Nov. 19 from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Room 1501.
Previously, he was an Apple Fellow at Apple Computer, Inc. His latest book, Reality Check, is now available. He has authored eight more books, including The Art of the Start, Rules for Revolutionaries, How to Drive Your Competition Crazy, Selling the Dream and The Macintosh Way.

Flu shots are administered Mondays through Fridays, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 4:30 p.m. in Room 2126 on the Main Campus.
Infection control begins with respiratory manners, which includes staying home when you are ill, frequently washing your hands, sneezing into your flexed elbow and disposing of tissues. For clinic hours at the Main and Middlefield campuses, call (650) 949-7243.
